To know Elissa Altman is to love Elissa Altman. Yes, I am a fan of her writing. I can spend hours on her blog reading. One fine morning, I started reading around 9:30 am with my coffee. I got up to go get more coffee and the clock on the microwave read: 12:30 p.m. I get lost in her words, in her world, in her life. And I am grateful for it.

Elissa’s new book released a few months ago: Poor Man’s Feast and it is such a fun read (Oh, Oprah magazine agreed with me and picked it as one of their best reads for April 2013).

Poor Man’s Feast is a love story. Elissa write eloquently and with great humor about her love of food and love of all things gourmet during her single days. I was touched with her writing about her relationship with her father (you have to read her essay in Saveur to get a flavor of what I am talking about here).  The story takes a turn when Elissa meets and falls in love with Susan. Susan is all about living the simple life and Elissa is, well, isn’t! Will they make it work? Will Susan change to eating at The French Laundry or will Elissa change and learn to love the simpler side of life?

Read Poor Man’s Feast and find out. Oh, and here is a lovely little preview of this book. Buy the book, take it to the beach with you this summer. Order a tall drink and sit and sip and read.. and like me.. you won’t even notice the time fly by as you lose yourself in this beautifully told tale.
